Food Program and Service Area

Food Bank Hours:
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
10:30 am - 1:00 pm (Doors will not be open before 10:15 am)
And the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evening of the month
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm 

With each visit, please bring:

  • Picture ID
  • Proof of address, such as a utility bill that has been recently mailed to you

We offer three visits per household, per month:

When checking in for services, you will be given a "shopper card" according to your family size. The card lists the number of items you may choose in food categories such as can vegetables & fruits, proteins, grains, soups, meats, breads & pastries, milk & eggs, and fresh produce.

Serving individuals and families living within Black Diamond, Covington, Maple Valley, and  the Tahoma School District.

Additional Services

Financial Assistance:

Assistance is available for utility disconnects, eviction notices, move-in costs, prescription drugs, medical bills and other emergency needs. Funding is limited each month and we will be taking applications only when funds are available. To apply for financial assistance you must submit an application at our office during regular food bank hours. Bring your disconnect notice, eviction notice or other qualifying bill to attach to your application. Priority is given to households with children, seniors and disabled.

Federal Energy Program (LIHEAP) and PSE HELP: 

We are now scheduling appointments at our site for the LIHEAP and/or PSE Help Programs. To be scheduled for an appointment at our site, you MUST come in during regular food bank hours. You must be a current client to receive an appointment at our site. You can also schedule an appointment through the Multi Service Center by calling their automated appointment line at 1-800-348-7144.   Income Guidelines and Documentation needed.

Holiday Food: Program Closed

Clients may receive a holiday meat or gift card and additional Thanksgiving and Christmas food during one regular November and December shopping visit. We encourage holiday food shopping on your 1st visit of the month to help avoid long lines at the end of the month.

REQUIREMENTS: To receive Holiday Food, you must be a currently registered client AND provide current Proof of Address the DAY OF shopping for holiday foods. Accepted forms of proof: utility bill, lease agreement, or rent receipt with name and address. 

Children's Christmas Gift Program: Program Closed

Parents can select new gifts for their children, birth to age 18 (must be in high school), from our unique Gift Center. 

Black Diamond residents must register for gifts with the Black Diamond Community Center.

REQUIREMENTS: You must be a current food bank client, provide current Proof of Address (see Holiday Food) AND provide Verification of the Children living in your home, AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION for gifts. Accepted forms of verification: Birth certificate, Social Security card, or DSHS printout listing all household members.

  • Registration opens October 30th and closes December 6, 2018.
  • You will must register in person, during food bank distribution hours.
  • At registration, you will receive an appointment time.
  • Gift Distribution is by appointment only, December 15 and December 16, 2018.
  • Children's Christmas Gift Center will be located in the Cedar Lodge of Maple Valley, adjoining the Food Bank.

School Supply Backpack Program: Program Closed

New backpacks stuffed with essential, grade-level appropriate supplies are distributed to children entering grades K-12. Black Diamond residents, please visit the Black Diamond Community Center.

  • You must be a current food bank client to register for backpacks.
  • Registration opens: July 10, 2018
  • You must register in person, during food bank distribution hours.
  • At registration, you will receive an appointment time.
  • Backpack distribution is by appointment only.

Outreach Programs:

  • King County Veterans' Program has an outreach worker available to assist veterans, service members and their dependents with housing, employment, and living stability. Please call Frank at 206-618-9059 to make an appointment.
  • The Thrive Program, through the Multi-Service Center, has an outreach worker available to assist homeless adults with resources for free GED classes, job training, job placement and other support services. Call Melanie at 253-838-6810, ext. 176, to make an appointment.
  • Three times a month, Within Reach comes out to assist applicants with the Washington Basic Food Program (food stamps), Affordable Care Act programs and to answer questions about DSHS services.

In observance of the following holidays, we will be closed:

  • Presidents' Day
  • Memorial Day
  • 4th of July
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday
Christmas Break for 2018:
  • Food bank will be closed December 24 - December 28th.
