Volunteer Your Time and Talents
It takes about 300 volunteer hours to keep our food bank running smoothly for one week. We are deeply grateful to the men and women who faithfully meet that need week in and week out!

All regular operations volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers involving client interaction must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers must be able to lift 40 pounds safely.
Looking to meet an educational requirement? Volunteer opportunities for students who are at least 16, able to work independently, and consistently able to lift up to 40 pounds are available on a limited basis. Please contact kaily@maplevalleyfoodbank.org.
Looking to fill court ordered community service requirements? If you are interested in fulfilling Court Ordered Community Service requirements, or community service in lieu of a fine, come to our office, to fill out our online Inquiry Form. You will be contacted if there is a current need for your services. If you are selected for service Court Order or sentencing documents will be required at the time work is scheduled.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Weekly
Volunteers who opt for regular weekly volunteer positions will have a set weekly schedule to help with our warehouse production and food distribution days.
Different roles include:
Grocery Rescue Driver/Driver Helper: Work with a volunteer team to take MVFB vehicles out to local grocery stores to pick up food items they can no longer sell in store.
Market/Food Distribution:
Work with a volunteer team to ensure a successful market day for all Food Bank shoppers. Roles may include stocking, cleaning, check out, etc.
Production and Donation Sorting:
Work with a volunteer team on ‘non-client’ days to help ensure a successful client experience. Tasks may include food bagging/boxing, stocking shelves, cleaning, sorting through food donations, offloading food deliveries, etc.
On-Call
On-call volunteers are added to our contact list and will receive an email if there is a spot that we need temporarily (but immediately) filled for a day. This is on an as needed basis.
Special Projects / Events:
Volunteers are added to our contact list and will receive an email if there is a special project or event that we need help with! There are special projects and events all throughout the year, such as our holiday programs, backpack program, and community-facing events/fundraisers.
Storefront Drives:
Volunteers are added to our contact list and will receive an email opportunity arises. Volunteers will help pass out flyers and collect items at local grocery stores to help us restock our shelves.
Senior Community Service Hours (Not Court Ordered):
Seniors at Tahoma High School can complete their service hours with Maple Valley Food Bank between August and April. Interested students are added to our student list and will receive an email if there is an opportunity to sign up.
